id·i·o·syn·cra·sies

i've been tagged by fellow writer/novelist, miss geraly, to list my idiosyncrasies.

yes, she forwarded me the definition as well-
id·i·o·syn·cra·sy n. pl. id·i·o·syn·cra·sies:
1. A structural or behavioral characteristic peculiar to an individual or group. 2. A physiological or temperamental peculiarity. 3. An unusual individual reaction to food or a drug.

so, here goes mine:
1. when i meet someone who is the type of 'talker' who only enjoys hearing themselves talk, i often tune them out within the first five minutes of meeting them. to act as if i am 'actively listening' i'll occasionally interject with a "really?" or "uh huh?" when really, i'm thinking about what i want to eat or what i need to do once i get home.

2. i don't believe in the rule of not wearing the same thing twice in one week or within consecutive days. i often do and don't give a F*!@.

3. i get slightly irritated when people are rewarded for mediocracy.

4. i prefer to sleep naked.

5. i cannot get into the groove (of writing) unless i have incense burning, at least one candle lit, and a bar of (unused fruity smelling) soap next to the computer.

6. i (usually) don't enjoy talking on the telephone.

7. i don't watch television very often- not because there isn't anything good on, but because i can't stand commercials.

8. i travel light- usually one hand carry and a small suitcase.

9. in my bag (oh no! i've become one of 'those' filipinas) i always have a book, a camera, my journal, lotion, chapstick, a pen, hand sanitizer, my wallet, my eye drops, and usually a folder containing papers that i should be reading or working on. (i haven't graduated to always having food in my purse, but just wait until i officially become a tita.)

10. after i've made love/had sex/(whatever you want to call it) i am adamant about emptying my urethra (peeing.) i am also adamant about reminding my partner to 1) wrap the condom in a tissue and 2) throw it away in the garbage (condoms don't flush fully down the toilet- they get stuck [fyi.])

11. when i receive feedback and/or constructive criticism on work i can't stand the phrase, "I'm not feel'in it." Unless someone can point out WHAT they're not feeling or how it can be better. (give me a problem with a solution homie!!)

12. i love mangos. however, if someone put a gun to my head and made me choose between dried mangos or fresh- i would have to pick the dried.

13. i don't respond well to people who tell me what to do. if you want me to do something you have to use some weird psychology on me where is doesn't sound like you're ordering me around.

14. i have a strange fascination with all kinds of people. i think about people very often. chances are, if i've met you (even once) i've thought about you more than once. and if i know you pretty darn well, then i think about you (w/ good thoughts/intentions) very often.

15. i have no problem using the words 'vagina' or 'penis' around children. it's amusing to see their reactions (and more amusing to see their parent's reactions.)

16. i need daily affirmations.

17. i hate the daily chores/trials/tribulations of being a woman. i.e. shaving, combing my hair, having a period, mood swings, gossiping, manicures, etc. i've been told by several people that i must have been a man in my past life. i don't doubt this.

18. i prefer not to use nail polish.

19. i talk to myself. sometimes (regardless if there are people around or not) i'll make animal sounds aloud.

20. when someone is speaking in front of a group- i'm always aware to recognize the amount of times the speaker uses the words "um," "like," or "you know." (all are considered public speaking 'no-no's.')

21. i get hives (red bumps that often take shapes of islands such as tonga, philippines or fiji.) i've had them since birth. it's a cabasco family trait where most of the women (and a few men) on my mom's side of the family suffer from as well. the hives can be caused from anything: laundry detergent, clothing, water, temperature, stress, etc. luckily i never get outbreaks on my face and more often then not, the hives will disappear after a good hour if i don't scratch them.

22. when i see someone litter, it affects me emotionally (really, it does.)

23. my stomach is very ticklish.

24. i am easily amused.

25. although i am not a consistent practitioner of catholicsm, i instictively still make the sign of the cross before i start my car, when i pass a church, or when i see/hear an ambulance.

26. when i like a song, i'll play the shit out of it (thank goodness for the 'repeat button' function) until i can't stand hearing the song myself.

27. i hit the roof of my car when i pass through any yellow light.

28. my left areolae is slightly larger than my right.

29. when i have a bruise, i often times touch it and/or press it because i somewhat like the sensation of pain that comes from doing this.

30. i prefer to attend funerals vs weddings. not because i'm freakie (okay, slightly) but because i am fascinated by the different traditions that take place during funerals. there hasn't been much of a difference (in practice) with the weddings i have attended within the past three years.

31. passive aggressiveness annoys me even though i'm guilty of the deed myself.

32. people who dwell on minor issues/things make me laugh (aloud.)

33. if i find a conversation boring, i've been known to walk away from the person/group mid sentence.

34. when i meet non-filipinos it annoys me when the person says a general statment like, "oh, my neighbor is filipino." or "oh, my cousin's son married a filipino." or "oh, i know some filipinos." when i meet a white person, i never say, "oh, i know white people!"

35. i enjoy motivating people to get to the 'next level' of success (within themselves, their family, and/or careers.) really, i do. it's funny how much people aren't able to recognize their own positive assets.

36. when i was a child, my sister and mother were both convinced that i was hypochondriac. my sister still thinks that i am. i don't think so, i just get sick really easily!

37. i don't like it when people (especially men) use the H word when referring to sexual encounters. (H-I-T; it even hurts me to spell it out.)

38. i'm a commitment-phobic.

...i'm much more of a freak, but i'm not sure if readers are ready to know just how much--or rather, maybe i'm just not ready to disclose just yet.

i now tag the following people to list their freakie habits: ms. nia is, oriented girl mjane, sugarbush shianne, mr t.do, mr tino gomez, brother bossch, the regulaters (md, am, cp, sw, cp, jw, bl), miggity mark the hip hip hopper, dr. francis galura, mills-amelia, m.zabala, gpacificar, rj, ev wonder blunder, senor d steez harrison jr. y senora shara senior, and sistah shayne....
