i'll admit- i had very little expectations prior to this short but sweet trip to the ATL. however, within two hours of my arrival- i was immediately swooned. what other city in the U.S. (or in the world for that matter) will a young gentleman (who was no doubt w/in my age range) offer you their subway seat?
i was baffled and a little offended at first.
does this homie think i'm over 70 or something?
"nawwww mia, it's called southern hospitality."
southern hospitality indeed.
by hour 4 in the city, i had already had the most pleasurable conversations with some very polite and welcoming strangers. folks had offered to walk me to where i needed to go, didn't hesitate in wanting to break down where i should go, and i wasn't even offended when i was referred to as "the little asian girl."
chillin' on the corner(s) was just as refreshing. topics of conversations i had (with several strangers) included:
world politics. check.
cultural differences/similarities. check.
behavioral traits of descendants of house slaves. check.
astrology. check.
bible beaters vs. bible believers. check.
mental needs vs. mental wants/
physical needs vs. physical wants. check.
one gentleman even surprised me in saying, "you're the kind of woman who's afraid of commitment huh?"
what the??!
that may be true, but that didn't stop me from shedding a slight tear (on day 2)over the following: watching the happy couple commit themselves to each other; watching tim's exquisitely edited video & having his family assume that i assisted in the success of it. sure, i'll take credit for it ;P ; but really, i think it was the 10 course meal at the reception that may have been the cause of future crying sprees.
that sh#$ was GOOD.
beautiful times, as always.
