nobody does it like...

gera-lee...

mamazilla- outside of the 'master artist' cottage at Atlantic Center for the Arts

so, i know this blog is turning into this lame "mia's shout-out to her homies and family" website. but, oh well. i decided to reminisce about the home girl-writer-mama-extraordinaire miss geraly (http://www.mamazilla.blogspot.com/.) pretty much because she's probably the only person who's reading this crap-of-a-blog anyhoo. i know what she's thinking about the picture i just posted of her, "oh no, mia didn't." but YES, i did. geraly was one of the first chicas i met while being mentored by miss hagedorn in florida last may. i must admit that initially, i was intimidated by her (and the other writers.) they all seemed so experienced, well-read, had enormous vocabularies, and were always oh-so-very articulate. but eventually, we realized that we were all a bunch of dorks who over analyzed, over observed, and held smilar 'writer'/slacker traits.

i'm wondering if geraly is going through the same kind of writing/re writing hell that i'm enduring at the moment. she's writing a very picturesque, semi-autobiographical, poetic, harmonious, and imaginative novel set in Chicago and the Philippines. i bet she's finished with her novel now (yes, i said that in a jealous tone.)

i, on the other hand, am on my semi-6th draft of this freak'in screenplay. i just received notes back from evan (co-writer) and maite (producer.) although i'm appreciative of their criticism- i somewhat feel like i'm back at the drawing board trying to (re)define my characters, their actions, their beats, and their lives in a more cohesive way that will make sense to someone else besides me.

i have exactly one month to push out another decent draft along with a budget attached to this flick. but as tim just advised me- i need to take baby steps and not get too ovewhelmed by the end goal. it's not like i'm trying to find a solution for world hunger- right? i'm just trying to make a movie. no big deal. i just keep telling myself that. no big deal.

and geraly, you're just writing a novel. no big deal.
