spit/spat like a beat box

(columbia university in ny)

"if ya'll fresh to death, than i'm deceased..."
(-k.w.)

so, i'm not one to hype music a-la-top 40, but my yoga for the week is kanye's graduation album, the remix by mick boogie, terry urban and 9th wonder (graciously shared by mr. a.w. turner- thank you!) seriously, i'm not a mr. west fan, but 9th wonder is one talented mu'fo and the beats on this remix have me mu'f*ckin' hypnotized.

speaking of hypnosis, there is a new source of motivation that has come over me...or a new passion, i should say. i want to go to grad school baaaaaad. my hunger for knowledge is beyond the munchies and beyond the 2 dimensional surface information that is directly exposed to me via hollywood. so far, surfing the internet, reading random books, and keeping up to date on national and international papers aren't doing it for me. i need benchmarks for my intake of new knowledge and i need to be conversing with others who are looking for similar solutions (for the world, that is.)

the new passion is moving towards a clearer understanding of global economics, how natural resources are dispersed in the most unbalanced way, and finding solutions for communities with less resources to gain more economic opportunities. i guess the catalyst of this passion stems from helping people find jobs and in retrospect, helping individuals build their own personal income and personal economic development. i've been reading books and essays here and there and notice that even the most world renowned economists still have a slightly jagged point of view. not to play the class and/or ethnic specific card, but economics and dispersement of resources affect under represented communities in a different and slightly more complex ways.

i'll get into my hypothesis later (don't want to bore you too much), but if there is a way to disperse (in laymens terms) the information that most professional economists are aware of to the general public, i believe sharing this knowledge will be the quickest way to expedite mass social change. if people were aware of the cycle of how much their dollars spent affected individuals and communities internationally, there would be a serious shift in consciousness. but the knowledge has to be shared in an entertaining way, otherwise mainstream audiences aren't going to give a rat's ass. that's where my media background would come in as a solution...right, right!

so making movies about an economists' thesis? not exactly a smash at the box office, but at least a part of an equation that i wouldn't mind experimenting with...

anyhoo, the photo above was taken a couple months ago. last time i was in new york, laurie and i took a tour of Columbia. laurie fortunately started her fall semester last month in Columbia's grad film program and the homegirl marie is on her 2nd year of grad school at Columbia in education. coincidentally, this school also happens to have one of the most reputable programs in the country focusing on globalization and international economics.

hmmmm...something to ponder on. well, something to ponder on once i have escaped the payments of student loan hell (from undergrad.) anyhoo, enough about wasted or not-so-wasted dollars, the daily spittin' will continue...
