this phrase is funny. i can't knock it, because truth be told, i'm one of them- so is most of America, and depending on where you are right now, more than likely, so are you.

media is a tricky, funky little creature, isn't it? it dictates what we think we want, what we think we need, our point of views, our talking points... the subcultures of any major city are even trickier. there are these cults, who don't think they're cults. they tell you they're listening to the latest underground __________ (insert whatever); they overly hype mediocre pieces of work; they repeat mantras that they don't follow themselves...

then there are those rare gems, whose actions speak louder than words. who don't need to give an update status on every amazing event or achievement, they are the good energies of the wind, who when they ask you "how are you?" they really mean it and don't give robotic responses.

they get IT.
IT being human nature.

and at the end of the day, i find myself asking,
WHO ARE YOU? no really, who are you? without being affected by outside sources, who are you at the core? without giving the status of who your domestic partner is (or isn't), without sharing what your occupation is, without recognition of your economic level, without telling me what kind of car you drive, without any references to pop culture, what kind of cell phone you have, how you're a great cook, how smart you are, how you're about to drop the most illest sh*t, how much you keep up with current events, how you're feeling at this exact moment, how hard of a worker you are, how many times you've been in jail, how many times you judge per day, what your definition of success is...

all of this still doesn't answer the question: who are you?

once you can answer that question with an extreme sense of confidence, without hesitation, send me a memo please... it'll be refreshing.
